Production Administrator

Michigan Opera Theatre, the 12th largest opera company in North America, seeks a motivated and highly organized individual to serve as Production Administrator. Michigan Opera Theatre produces 5 operas each performing season, and presents a dance series showcasing the world’s leading companies. The Detroit Opera House is a leading presentation venue, and features the largest proscenium stage and greatest production capability in the region. The theater hosts numerous events throughout the year including Broadway and variety entertainment.

The Production Administrator is responsible for fulfilling numerous key functions in the daily operation of the production department. Responsibilities include:

  • Processing all accounts payable and receivable for the production department and maintaining accurate expense account reports.
  • Administer individual employment agreements for all guest artists and production personnel and manage all seasonal production personnel files.
  • Process payrolls for all hourly and seasonal production personnel, and maintain accurate and up to date payroll expense records.
  • Prepare visa applications for all foreign guest artists and production personnel. Responsible for assuring that all personnel are engaged within all current and applicable federal guidelines.
  • Administer all production department contractual obligations including scenery and costume rentals and purchases.
  • Coordinate production credits for MOT playbill and website.
  • Maintain résumé bank as a resource for seasonal employment openings.
  • Manage maintenance of pianos and implement tuning schedule.
  • Responsible for general administration of daily office operations and correspondence.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, be highly organized and detail orientated. Experience in a performing arts organization or background in the performing arts is preferred. Proficiency in MS Word and XL required. Position available May 1 and will be on a part-time basis through June, with full-time status and benefits beginning July 1, 2008. This position reports to the director of production.
