REHEARSALS: Rehearsals begin September 28 and continue through October and November on Saturdays and Sundays
Rehearsals take place at the Detroit Opera House
PERFORMANCES: November 28 November 30, 2008 (6 performances)
Please note these performances take place Thanksgiving Weekend.
AUDITION ATTIRE: Girls: dark leotard, pink tights and ballet slippers
NO POINTE SHOES
Hair should be pulled back from the face in a bun
Boys: white t-shirt, dark tights and ballet slippers
PLEASE NOTE:
- Bring a photograph (non-returnable). It does not need to be a ballet photo. School photos are fine.
- There is no audition fee!
- No parents are admitted to the audition!
- Children will know when they leave the audition if they have been cast in the Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker. There are no callbacks.

CHORUS AUDITIONS
Michigan Opera Theatre is continually looking for talented and ambitious singers to be a part of the chorus each season. Chorus auditions are held each summer in preparation for the following season. DETAILS: Michigan Opera Theatre is holding auditions for the Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Chorus (MOTCC). Successful applicants will perform with international opera singers in Michigan Opera Theatre productions and in local and regional performances. Only choristers who participate in the MOTCC will be eligible to audition for the 2008-2009 main stage productions of Carmen and I Pagliacci. Choristers will participate in the annual production of The Nutcracker. They will also perform in their own additional performances. The ensemble will rehearse and perform at the Detroit Opera House from September 2008 through May 2009 on Mondays from 5:30 7:30 PM with additional rehearsals as needed. There is an annual $400 tuition fee for accepted students with scholarships available, but it is free to apply and audition.
REQUIREMENTS: Audition call is for children, ages 10-16 with unchanged voices. Applicants must be prepared to:
- Sing a prepared song. If possible, bring a copy of the music. An accompanist will be provided.
- Recite a prepared poem of their choice.

The mission of the MOT Children’s Choir is to provide exceptional choral music and theatrical performance instruction in a professional environment to young people. This instruction will foster their creativity, personal expression and social growth. Offering a curriculum that embraces diverse cultures and traditions and a rich and extensive range of musical genres, the program will seek to instill personal and artistic excellence in its students. Positions begin September, 2008
Bassoon and Horn auditions will be held on May 13, 2008, Bassoon from 10am-3pm, Horn from 5pm-10pm. Trumpet auditions will be held May 15, 2008, from 5pm-10pm. The M.O.T. orchestra performs five operas each season. 2008-2009 season pay rate is: $137.18/reh., $148.60/dress reh., and $182.32/perf., Premium pay; Principal 20%, Doubling 12.5%. 58 service guarantee; additional services increase count to approximately 75. AFM pension fund 10%.
