Children’s Chorus makes public debut singing holiday favorites and opera

DETROIT, Michigan, November 21, 2007…The newly formed Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Chorus is pleased to announce its debut performance at A Winter Fantasy fundraiser, on Monday, December 17, 2007 at the Detroit Opera House. The Children’s Chorus will make two repeat performances, at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the Marlene L. Boll Hall at the Detroit Opera House with an ongoing reception and silent auction in the General Director’s Circle Lounge that begins at 6 p.m. The Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Chorus will perform holiday favorites and staged scenes from Engelbert Humperdinck’s classic opera Hansel and Gretel.

Tickets for each performance are $15 and quantities are limited. They can be purchased in advance by calling Megan Landry, Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Chorus Administrator at (313) 237-3261 or emailing mlandry@motopera.org. A limited number of tickets can also be purchased at the door. Proceeds from tickets sold will benefit the Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Chorus, and will help purchase supplies and uniforms. The Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Chorus
The mission of the Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Choir is to provide exceptional choral music and theatrical performance instruction in a professional environment to young people. Offering a curriculum that embraces diverse cultures and traditions and a rich and extensive range of musical genres, the program seeks to instill personal and artistic excellence in its students. Led by Michigan Opera Theatre Chorus Master Suzanne Mallare Acton and Children’s Chorus Assistant Director and Conductor Dianna Hochella, this permanent children’s choir is the first of its kind for Detroit-area children. Accepting children ages 10-16 by audition, the choir performs as a separate ensemble and with international opera stars in Michigan Opera Theatre productions.
