Kept us up
Dorit Edut - Huntington Woods

What a treasure!

We certainly couldn't sleep after this amazing performance on Saturday night. The voices and acting of Siurina and Castronovo took us to new places of grandeur; how lucky we are to have them perform here in Detroit! Gangestad and Majeski were also wonderful as Rodolfo and Lisa! David DiChiera makes it so worthwhile to live in Metro Detroit — many, many thanks — and let's get more of our friends and neighbors here, too!

Convinced me to subscribe
Lorraine Donakowski McDonnell - Troy

BRAVO!!!!!
MAGNIFICENT!!!!!
I am about to pick up the phone and subscribe to the 2008/09 season. We must keep the opera in Detroit. I already am a 14th year subscriber to the DSO. Thank you Dr. David DiChiera and all dedicated persons.

"Second cast" amazing
Marlene Kondelik - Albion

Congratulations on a wonderful performance at the Sunday matinee. Gutierrez was amazing, and the male leads, Castronovo and Borowski, were very fine. I have quibbled in the past about some of the "second casts" not being up to snuff, but in this case, I had no complaints. In addition, I think that the involvement of Scotto and Bonynge in this production took this endeavor to a very high level.

Gaiety, color and style
Mary Andrews - Farmington Hills, Michigan

Dear Dr. DiChiera: Great production! When Amina dramatically appears in the limbs of such a massive tree, the audience involuntarily held its surprised, collective breath waiting to see what would happen next. The symbolism was striking: Will this merciless, barren tree bring death to the innocent Amina? Great staging, indeed!

One other thing: As the opera ends on such a high note, with gaiety, color and style, I would have loved to see Amina toss her bouquet into the audience! What a riot that would have been!

Thanks again for a great performance.

Bravo Eglise!
Barbara - Beverly Hills

Eglise Gutierrez simply melted the stage with her heartfelt arias in Act II! Bravo!!

Dull plot, exciting leads
Kristine Frias - Birmingham

The two leads were phenomenal. Despite a rather slow moving plot, the lead roles played by Ekaterina and Charles made our evening at the opera a memorable and moving experience. Thank you for bringing such world class talent to Detroit!

Give us more Bellini!
Keith Otis Edwards - Dearborn

I'm the guy who always shouts at David DiChiera, MORE BELLINI! and despite the minimalist staging, this is one of the finest MOT productions in years. Ekaterina Siurina was not to be believed, and the rest of the cast sang just as flawlessly. As soon as I returned home I watched the immortal Sumi Jo sing Ah! Non Giunge, at YouTube, and I realized how lucky I am to live in a city with an opera director astute enough to have featured both stars on his stage.

It cannot be denied that with Bellini, there is no waiting for the one celebrated aria (e.g., Nessun dorma) in an otherwise weak opera. With Bellini, there is one beautiful melody after another.

Great production
Sokol Todi - Ann Arbor

Simply put, this is a great production (March 29). The soprano and tenor gave it their all, but in a manner completely consistent with the written music and the libretto. Very well-sung and acted. Too bad this was not a sold-out event. I look forward to future performances by Ekaterina Siurina in bel-canto roles.

Memorable
Gene Hartwig - Bloomfield Hills

David is to be congratulated for bringing this classic Bel Canto opera to Detroit. It is a treasure of vocalizing that should be performed more frequently. The performance Saturday night was memorable.

Under-appreciated
David T. - Bloomfield Hills

A wonderful performance.

Congratulations to Michigan Opera. It is a shame that the people of Detroit cannot fill the 'house' with this quality of performance. It was the same with Norma which was also first class.

Superb
Steve Kesler - Ann Arbor

MOT's production of La Sonnambula is superb. The opera is a bel canto showcase and the cast on Saturday night could not have been better. It is a "must see".
