I wanted to sing along
Bill Sikorat - Sterling Heights
What a wonderful opera! We attended opening night and had a marvelous time. The chorus was the best ever; I really wanted to sing along on "Va, pensiero" and pretend to be an Italian patriot. The orchestra sounded as full and rich as Verdi demands. Steven Mercurio and you all did yourselves proud. I loved the voice of the guy who sang Nabucco; what sonority and volume. Abigaille sounded like recordings we've heard of Callas.
Enjoyed
Garrod Post - Ann Arbor
Enjoyed the production of Nabucco last night. Great singing and playing.
Great singers across the board
Becky - Pontiac
The singing in this was incredible. In some other operas, there is one great singer, and the others are good. This opera had great singers across the board. What a fantastic production.
Wonderful
Arnold Klein - Pleasant Ridge
Wonderful production, beautiful singing, fine orchestra. Thank you!
This is what keeps us coming back
Frank
Your production of Nabucco was magnificent. As a subscription member, this event is what keeps my wife and I coming back year after year. As a choral singer (Vanguard Voices), I envied the wonderful experience of singing the beautiful passages given to the chorus, especially "Va, pensiero". The staging and lighting were impressive and effective in creating the moods required. The soloists were exceptional. Bravo!
Soul-expanding
Thomas Hobbs - Harrison Township
I have not been to the opera in the last two years. Going last night to see Nabucco my soul has expanded with the emotion only an opera can give. We are so blessed having Michigan Opera. Without a Nabucco this world would be a little colder.
Thanks so much Steven for a production of a life time.
Most memorable
Ron Nolan - Lincoln Park
I can now say that I have experienced grand opera. I have seen many MOT opera performances, but "Nabucco" was truly the most memorable. Thank you MOT!
Added Nabucco to my list
Floyd Bell - Dearborn
I loved the performance. Bravos all around, especially the choral work and the scenic design. Although I was familiar with the opera and its music, this is the first oportunity I have had to see a live performance. I will add this opera to my list of operas to see again, and look forward to seeing it performed again at MOT.
Patane, Bilgili, Di Felice
Barbara Becker - Beverly Hills
Enjoyed particularly the father daughter duet. Patane, Bilgili, Di Felice spun out the themes begun so beautifully by the strings - kudos to MOT for a great production in the midst of tough times!
Excellent
Barbara Mitchell - Detroit
I went last night to see Nabucco and it was just excellent. I could see it again.
Nabucco ought to be heard more often
Stephen Calkins - Northville
MOT's Nabucco was terrific. Bass Burak Bilgili was a commanding presence in great voice who did justice to the great melodies Verdi composed for his part, but there was not a weak link in the cast. Nabucco ought to be heard much more often. The big scene at the end of the first act — a scene that foreshadowed Aida — was worth the price of admission by itself!
