ABDUCTION May 2007

Jeans at the opera
Lisa - Grosse Pointe Farms

Although I enjoy attending the opera each season, I am disappointed repeatedly to see people attend in JEANS. How embarrassing and disrespectful to MOT and other opera attendees.

Poorly sung
John - Rochester

The orchestra played beautifully. However, the principal singers really should have been so much better. This was poor singing. Worst was the direction. It was comic, in the sad sense of the word. For $69 I expect a professionally prepared and executed performance. I did not get either. I won't be going to MOT in the future, it was a waste of money. I will save it for a trip to Lyric Opera in Chicago.

Elizabeth Futral was flawless
Carolyn and Nicholas Gammicchia - Shelby Township

We had a wonderful opportunity to experience Abduction last evening. Our 15 year old son was quite taken with Elizabeth Futral's flawless portrayal of Konstanze. The purity of her vocal quality and range was amazing. We also were able to meet her afterward and she is a true asset to the Opera community. Not only is she beautiful, but very patient with her fans.

Also loved the entire cast and had never really thought of this opera in the past as being something that we would have attended. But we loved it and will be attending another.

Special thanks to Penny for inviting us and the Michigan Opera Theater for such a special venue.

The perfect Mother's Day get-away
Silke - Landshut, Germany (residing in Rochester Hills)

I treated myself to the afternoon matinee of Abduction on Mother's Day and must say I was quite blown away. Mozart's 'Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail' has always been my favorite Singspiel/ opera with its upbeat music and the engaging plot - to see it put on so expertly and endearingly, with such a wonderful and voice-mighty cast was quite a pleasure (and the perfect Mother's Day get-away for a mom of two little ones). I would recommend to anyone to come and see this opera while it is still playing.

A definite Thumbs Up!

Twice as nice in English
Mary Andrews - Farmington Hills

Thank you for Abduction. The choice to have it performed in English meant that my grandson's enjoyment doubled. We were mesmerized from beginning to end. Amazingly, the political statement after these many years is more than timely.

Exhilarating and clever
Barbara A. Becker - Beverly Hills

Terrific acting - a pleasant intro to opera for those who enjoy spoken dialogue and an upbeat plot. Peter Lobert and a terrific cast made Sunday's production exhilarating and clever.

Kudos to the marvelous violinist and beautifully talented Leah Partridge who produced many fabulous coloratura runs together.
