ALVI AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER February 2009

Proud to be part of it
Phenice - Southfield

I can't say enough about this wonderful dance production company, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. So proud to have been there opening night. Although I have always wanted to be a dancer (and never have) I can always dream and be high off the dancers of this great company. I know that Mr. Ailey is in heaven just dancing away happily. And as for Ms. Judith Jamison — keep doing what you do. Congrats on your 50th year of dance, I was so proud to be a part of it.

Total experience
Laurie - Northville

The performance Sunday was stunning and inspiring! And the woman who did the pre-talk was SO great—a great experience all around.

Alvin Ailey at their peak
Karen - Flint

As a dancer, I found this performance to be a condensed review of all my choreography, staging, costuming, lighting, and technique classes. It should be used as an exemplary example for the study of dance.

It was truly exciting to see "Revelations" restaged. I saw this piece back in the 1970's with Judith Jamison as the white-skirted carrier of the parasol. She will always be the quintessential dancer of that part in my memory.

That said, the entire company is so strong and seems far better than they ever have before. The "Festa Barocca" was exciting, "Treading" was superbly driving and deeply emotional, and then the audience was able to relax into the spirituals and appreciate the progress made by/of/for/with all peoples during "Revelations."

What a spectacular evening with a strong dance troupe that should not be missed by ANYONE! Thank you for what is possibly the best theater experience I have ever had.

Light and joy
Angela - Algonac

02/12/09 shall remain a shining night due to the absolutely stunning performance. The energy flowed from the dancers to me and I am still warmed by the vibrance. The costuming was just right (equal in beauty and fluidity to the dancing). The lighting complemented the movement. I can't stop singing Rocka My Soul... The ticket stub as a free entry to a Master Class is a wonderful gift to us in the audience. The artful use of the fabric "water" was brilliant. Thank you for the light and joy your performance gave me.

Pure genius
Susanne - Warren

What a brilliant and thrilling performance on opening night. The celebration of 50 years of pure genius was kicked off last night with breathtaking artistry and physical ability. My only disappointment was the crowd. To not be clapping along to Rocka My Soul in the Bossom of Abraham made the final piece of Revelations seem unappreciated by the audience. They should have taken a clue from the video montage which showed an audience watching an Avlin Ailey performance clapping along in the spirit of the moment. These dancers deserved our participation. Bravo to the company.
