BALLET FOLKLÓRICO DE MÉXICO
Direct from the capital city comes Mexico’s most esteemed artistic treasure – the Ballet Folklórico de México. In its debut performance at the Detroit Opera House, 65 dancers and musicians present a world-class spectacle that extols colorful ethnic traditions from Pre-Hispanic to modern times.

The company’s extensive repertoire is the legacy of Latin America’s most illustrious dancer and choreographer – Amalia Hernández, who founded the Ballet Folklórico de México in 1952 in an attempt to rescue the dance traditions of Mexico. Performing against beautiful backdrops that feature scenes such as a Mexican plaza, a lush tropical setting, or an Aztec sun, the dancers mesmerize the audience with brilliant theatricality as they stomp, twirl and leap across the stage with utmost precision.
